WE would like to take this opportunity to respond to a Kaieteur News article dated April 15, 2011 titled ‘Barama must not discriminate in the employment process – PNCR’.
Firstly, we thank the PNCR for their feedback which we believe is a genuine concern. However, this matter was dealt with in our April 6, 2011 press release which stated “In terms of employment opportunities, our policy is open to all interested persons that are deemed suitable for the respective areas of work. In this regard, we are confident that so far we have fulfilled all of our commitments to normalize the situation and have acted as a Corporate Socially Responsible Company.”
As a result of this policy, we have employed a significant number of former employees, without any form of discrimination inclusive of age. Therefore, we strongly refute any such allegations or misrepresentations. Most regrettable is that we were not consulted on this matter by the PNCR which we believe would have avoided such gross misrepresentation.
As a ‘Corporate Socially Responsible Company’ we are open to stakeholder’s interest and engagement. Given this fact, we would like to assure our stakeholders that we will always endeavour to act as a Corporate Socially Responsible Citizen of Guyana.
