GPL maintenance on No. 1 unit completed

…second major overhaul starts April 26
Major maintenance on the No. 1 unit at the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) new Kingston plant is expected to be completed by tomorrow, the company stated in a release yesterday.
GPL said that the overhaul progressed without any complications and was finished four days ahead of schedule. GPL stated that during the past week, it has been able to increase available generating capacity which currently stands at 75.4 MW, enough to cover the peak demand which is now at 72 MW. The return of the 6.9 MW Kingston unit will increase the available generation capacity in the Demerara interconnected system to 82.3 MW.
Consumers should be aware that network maintenance will continue as preparations have to be completed before the approaching May –June rains.
The second major overhaul will commence on Tuesday, April 26, and is scheduled to last 18 days. The network maintenance schedule will be published in the Sunday edition of the Guyana Chronicle.
