Natasha Devine, a hairdresser of Alberttown, yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry charged with false pretence, disorderly behaviour, and unlawful assault. It is alleged that on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in Alberttown, Devine incurred a debt to the driver of taxi HB 5786 by falsely pretending that she was in a position to pay the sum of $3,000 for the hire.
When driven to the Alberttown Police Station, she behaved disorderly and assaulted Police Lance Corporal Benjamin.
Police Sergeant Jennies Booker, prosecuting, said that on Tuesday April 12, 2011, at 23:30hrs, Divine made a report that her son was missing and about half an hour later she returned to the station with her son.
The police officer then saw marks of violence on her son’s body, and when questioned by the officer, the boy told him that his mother beats him badly and so he ran away to his aunt.
She was also charged with domestic violence, and placed on the maximum bail of $50,000 for the charges.
The matter was transferred to Court Ten for report and fixture.
