Kitty fatal accident…

One employee charged with causing death of another
NORMAN Holder, of Lot 6 James Street, Albouystown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
He is charged, indictably, with having, on April 4, driven motor van GKK 6698 in a manner dangerous to the public and caused the death of Ravindranauth Goorsammy.

Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the accused drove East along Barr Street, Kitty, also in Georgetown and hit the victim who was behind another vehicle.
The prosecutor said the deceased was rendered unconscious and was taken to Woodlands Hospital where he died.
Defence counsel Mark Waldron had a different version of what took place. He said Holder is employed by Panday (only name stated) as a driver and Goorsammy, a mechanic with the same employer, was moving a vehicle belonging to the latter from inside a bond on Barr Street when the tragedy occurred.
The lawyer said Goorsammy was attending to another vehicle and Holder was in a motor van that collided with it as the former was between the two.
Waldron said the vehicle, Holder was moving had a mechanical problem that led to the unfortunate incident.
It was not a case of speeding and the charge should not have been causing death by dangerous driving.
The prosecutor requested another date to seek advice but the magistrate asked him why he did not do so before the charge was instituted.
After a few minutes, Telford said investigations are not yet complete but the magistrate, noting that he had not answered her question, ordered him to take his seat and put Holder on $250,000 bail until June 1.
