GUYANA Goldfields Inc., a Canadian mining company operating here, yesterday donated two all terrain vehicles (ATVs) to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
Receiving the gifts at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) Square, Eve Leary, Georgetown, was Deputy Commissioner Leroy Brummel, on behalf of Commissioner Henry Greene, who had other pressing duties. After receiving the switch keys, from Corporate Social Responsibility and Human Relations Manager of Guyana Goldfields, Ms. Ayana Caldeira, Brummel said the machines will be utilised to respond to crime reports in remote hinterland communities.
The senior Police officer also expressed thanks to the company for the generous donation to secure the communities in far fetched places, such as Aranka.
Brummel said the GPF will also strengthen its presence in these communities by dispatching TSU ranks who will use the ATVs to fight crime and undertake patrols.
He gave the assurance, as well, that the Police will take care of the ATVs.
Caldeira told the Police personnel gathered for the occasion that the company made the presentation as a means of taking responsibility for its presence in the country where they have several mining operations in the interior.
She confirmed that the company is mining in a few interior locations. (Michel Outridge)
