POMEROON Oil Mill, at Charity, on the Essequibo Coast, is currently out of operation because its factory was flooded since Monday afternoon.
Water from extremely high tides in the Pomeroon River overflowed the defence dam and damaged millions of dollars worth of copra stockpiled in bags for processing.
Workers tried desperately to remove the produce to higher ground but were unsuccessful.
Several sections of the factory building, including the main office, storage bond, production room, manager’s office and fuel bond were inundated with at least six inches of water.
Electrical equipment were also affected in the home of Golden Brook Vegetable Oil, made from copra sold to Mr. Alfro Alphonso by Pomeroon River farmers, some of whom were also affected by the flooding.
