RANSFORD Goodluck won the Silver Cup while Lt Col. Terry Stuart carted off the Spoon at last Sunday’s Rifle-shooting competition held at the Timehri rifle ranges.
The winds varied in speed and switched regularly while there was interruption for rain amid sunny conditions. Recent inclement weather had forced the cancellation of two competitions.
Goodluck, the current West Indies Fullbore champion dropped only one point at three ranges in recording 104 points out of a possible 105 with 11 V-bulls.
He shot 35:4 at 30 yards, 35:4 at 500 yards and 34:3 at 900 yards.
National captain Mahendra Persaud secured the second position with 102 points and nine V-bulls.
He recorded 34:4 at 300, 35:3 and 500 and 33:2 at 900 yards.
Richard ‘Dickie’ Fields claimed the third position with 99 points 9 V-bulls with Lennox Braithwaite, returning to competition to capture the fourth place with 99:5 while ACP retired Paul Slowe claimed fifth spot with 98:8.
In ‘O’ Class, Lt. Col. Stuart proved too strong for Charles Deane to take the Spoon prize.
Stuart shot 94 points with 6 V-bulls while Deane recorded 89 with 7 V-bulls.
Last Sunday’s shoot formed part of the local shooters’ preparation for this year’s West Indies Fullbore championships to be staged in Antigua/Barbuda for the first time from May 1 to 8.
Guyana are the reigning regional champions at both the long and short ranges.
