Fisherman caught four charges

PREMSINGH, a popular East Coast Demerara fish vendor was slapped with four charges stemming from varying traffic violations when he appeared before Magistrate Shurdell Isaacs-Marcus at the Vigilance Magistrate’s court last Thursday.

According to Police, on 3rd March, 2011 at Good Hope Public Road, ECD, the defendant drove minibus PGG 3947 in a manner dangerous to the public. The second charge stated that Premsingh, on the same day, drove the said minibus whilst his licence was not in force.

The third charge read that his insurance policy in relation to third party risk was not in force at the time; and the fourth charge alleged that his blood alcohol level had exceeded the prescribe limit on the same day.

To this, the police prosecutor stressed that the defendant was so intoxicated at the time of his arrest that standing on his own feet was an unachievable task.

Attorney-at-Law James Bond, who represented the defendant, chastised the police, alleging that they mislead his client since he was told that he has only one charge to answer.
The attorney then made a successful bail application for his client, who was subsequently granted $20,000 bail for the Dangerous driving charge, and self bail on the remaining three.
