Midday collision…

15 injured as minibus, car written off
A MINIBUS and a motor car collided, around noon yesterday, on Montrose Public Road, leaving 15 people injured and both vehicles practically written off.
The bus was en route to Georgetown from Buxton while the car was proceeding in the opposite direction.
Fourteen passengers and the driver of BKK 3774, 41-year- old Mark Wade, of Vigilance South, also on East Coast Demerara, were rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and treated but the degrees of their injuries were not ascertained.
Among those who received treatment were Sharon Rodney and her infant son and daughter Eldron and Naiomi Watson, ages two and four years, respectively; Vanessa Phillips, Headmistress of the nursery school on Company Road, Buxton; 42-year-olds Bridgette King and Sharon Adolphus; Ajua John, 29; Wynette Mc Almon, 39; Yonette Hodge, 33; Thelma Crommel; Florence Butler, 69; Nonika (only name stated) 23; Allison Kingston, 17 and Keon Jupiter, 14, all of Buxton.
Some who were in the mini-bus related that a burgundy colour ‘Toyota Corona’, PCC 5937 crashed into their vehicle and, on impact, the car was pitched into a nearby trench opposite Tony’s Auto Sales Mart at Montrose.
The man driving the car was rescued by workmen in the area who pulled him and his motor car out of the water.
Employees at Tony’s said, after it was struck by the car, the bus skidded and was heading into a bush truck parked in front of the business place but the driver held his steering wheel tightly, avoided that possible lethal smash-up but caused it to topple twice and end up on its side. In the process, the front windscreen flew off and hit one of the motor cars advertised for sale at Tony’s.
It was not clear who was driving PCC 5937 but it registered owner’s name is Roy Gonsalves, of Lot 5 Water Street, Agricola, Greater Georgetown.

Police are investigating.
