… final set for April 3
AFTER persistent rains over the last two weeks the $1M first prize Mayor’s Cup is set to restart this Sunday at the GFC ground with another double-header. The four remaining games, to complete the first round of the 16-team Invitational Tournament, will be played on consecutive days. National club champions Alpha United will be in action on Sunday when they oppose BV Triumph United in the second game, with Sunburst Camptown and Bakewell Buxton United clashing in the opener at 18:00 h.The next day Santos tackle Victoria Kings at 18:00 h before BK International Western Tigers confront Beacon FC.
The quarter-finals will start next Wednesday when Fruta Conquerors oppose GDF in the opener and the game to follow will feature Pele FC against Riddim Squad.
The two match-ups in the last eight will see the winner of the Camptown vs Buxton match against the winner of the Alpha versus BV Triumph on Friday 25th while the semis will be played two days later.
The Championship game is fixed for April 3 at the Guyana National Stadium.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport, Chief Organiser Lennox Arthur said that he is positively optimistic about the restart of the competition which has been set back by two weeks due to the consistent showers during that period.
Arthur also stated that fans can expect more exciting and entertaining clashes as the quest for the million-dollar first prize continues.
