ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday put William Pickett on $35,000 bail when he appeared in court, charged with simple larceny. The defendant, who gave his address as a squatting area behind the Textile Mill, in Industrial Site, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on March 13, at Lot 5 Princes Street, Lodge, he stole scrap iron, valued $5,000, property of Patrick Fraser.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the court that Fraser is a scrap metal dealer and he saw Pickett and two other men removing the scraps from his premises and putting them on a horse cart.
The prosecutor said the virtual complainant managed to arrest the defendant but his accomplices escaped.
The case will be called, again, on April 1.
