POLICE, up to yesterday, were yet to make an arrest following the Saturday murder of self-employed contractor Carlos ‘Jason’ Persaud, 31, of Lot 6 Ram’s Drive, Canefield, Friendship, East Bank Demerara. His bullet-riddled body was found in Le Repentir Cemetery while his motor car, PMM 2625 was found abandoned at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, also in Georgetown.
Relatives of the deceased said a post mortem examination is expected to be performed on his body tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the man’s brutal killing is still a mystery to his family members.
A close family friend, Balram Balraj told the Guyana Chronicle that, last Friday, Persaud left home on an errand to the city about 17:30 hrs but never returned.
Balraj, also a neighbour, said Persaud had gone to purchase some stock for their shop and his wife Anita Persaud was in contact with him.
At one time, he told her he was on his way back and that was the last she heard from him. She fell asleep but woke up an hour later and called his cellular phone but got no answer.
Having checked and not finding his car in their yard, she telephoned his mother and siblings and they started searching for him before making a missing person report to the Police.
The search for Persaud had resumed early Saturday morning when the Police announced that a corpse was found in the city and his wife positively identified her husband.
The dead man was the father of Ashley, seven, and foster parent of three girls, Savita, Ambika and Anamika.
He owned two trucks which he contracted out to businesses but operates a grocery and an Internet café at his home, jointly with his wife. (Michel Outridge)
