THE Ministry of Education has launched a new website providing critical information for parents, teachers, students and other stakeholders. According to a release issued by the ministry, the site, which can be accessed at www.education.gov.gy, provides news and views on education, information on schools, policies and the various education departments within the ministry.
The ministry is still in the process of uploading vital information on the site and soon videos on the complete lessons in Mathematics and English at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations level will be posted.
Past papers in Mathematics and the Sciences will also be posted on the site which features links to the Caribbean Examination Council, the Pan American Heath Organisation, the University of Guyana, UNICEF and the National Centre for Education Resource Development (NCERD), the release stated.
The National Accreditation Council, the TVET Council and the Connecting Classrooms programme will soon be added to this list.
In addition, curriculum guides for both primary and secondary schools have already been uploaded and the goal is to transform the site into a virtual classroom and to enhance learning in the broadest possible sense.
The website will also be used to inform and update all education stakeholders on events, issues and programmes under the purview of the Ministry of Education, and serve as the communication flagship of the sector.
It will serve as the source of relevant, timely, and accurate information, and the objective is to make the site an information hub for parents, students and teachers.
The site represents partial fulfillment of the Information Communication Technology component of the ministry’s five year Strategic Plan which covers the period 2008 to 2013.
