ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry sentenced John Isaacs to six months imprisonment yesterday, for assaulting his girlfriend.
The prisoner (no address given) pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, last January 22, he unlawfully assaulted Tinesha (only name stated).
He pleaded not guilty to a threatening language charge.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the defendant and the virtual complainant were at a Timehri, East Bank Demerara resort, where he commanded her to go into his motor car and threatened to kill her.
The Prosecutor said the woman, in fear for her life, complied and, along the journey to Georgetown, Isaacs slapped her and warned her that, if he cannot do the killing, himself, he would get his friends to do it.
Isaacs admitted hitting the woman because he claimed she tried to pull the steering wheel but he denied threatening her.
He said she had invited him to the outing and, when he got there, he saw her sitting on another man’s lap and, after he called on her to accompany him to the city, she agreed.
Following receipt of the sentence for the assault, Isaacs was remanded to prison on the other charge, until April 7.
