Braga floor Liverpool, Porto win in Moscow

(REUTERS) – Braga stunned Liverpool after a first-half penalty to clinch a 1-0 win over the five-time European champions in the Europa League yesterday.
Portuguese Alan converted his spot kick in the 18th minute of the round-of-16 first leg after Sotiris Kyrgiakos tripped Brazilian Mossoro in a first half dominated by the hosts.

Porto continued a good night for Portugal by winning 1-0 at CSKA Moscow with a second-half goal from Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin.
Brazil striker Nilmar scored twice, including a stoppage-time winner, to give Villarreal a 3-2 triumph at Bayer Leverkusen while Rangers drew 0-0 at PSV Eindhoven.
Manager Kenny Dalglish was angry with Liverpool’s first-half display during which Silvio also hit the woodwork for Braga.
“The first 35 minutes we were terrible. The penalty summed up the way we were approaching the game. I think at 1-0 we’ve still got a chance but if we play like we did at the start of the first half at Anfield we haven’t got any chance,” said the Scot who was without injured captain Steven Gerard and forward Luis Suarez.

CSKA DEFEAT
CSKA, playing their 11th match in this season’s competition, slumped to their first defeat after a superb effort from Porto’s Guarin who turned his marker and scored from 25 metres out.
In Germany, Michal Kadlec fired Leverkusen ahead with a 30-metre shot before Giuseppe Rossi levelled and Nilmar scored within a minute of coming on as a substitute to give Spain’s sole survivors the lead.
Gonzalo Castro equalised in the 72nd minute for Leverkusen only for Nilmar to break clear in the fourth minute of injury time to slot the winner, while a glaring second-half miss by PSV’s Marcelo, who headed wide with the goal at his mercy, was the closest either side came to a goal in their match with Rangers.
