MOHAMED Ali (no address given) was refused bail yesterday when he faced nine charges in front of Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
He pleaded guilty to all the charges and was remanded to prison, pending a probation report on his background, for sentencing on March 28.
The allegations against the prisoner said:
* on January 26, by false pretence and with intent to defraud, he obtained, from Ram Suknandan, 50.5 pennyweights of raw gold valued $378,750, by falsely pretending that he was in a position to pay for it;
* on February 3, he stole 50 pennyweights of raw gold valued $275,000, property of Anthony Stanton;
* on February 7, he stole $660,000, belonging to Khemraj Ramdeo;
* between November 1 and 2, 2010, he stole $3.2M and US$300 from Stanton;
* being in the custody, of Police Constable Rodney, pending criminal charges, he escaped on February 25;
* on January 1, 2011, at Anna Regina Police Station, Essequibo Coast, being in lawful custody, pending a criminal charge of break and enter and larceny, he escaped;
* he broke and entered the dwelling house of Quang Young, in Essequibo, between August 28 and 29, 2010, when he stole US$19,000 and jewellery to a total value of G$4.3M;
* on January 26, he stole 50 pennyweights of raw gold, worth $275,000, property of Orin Agar and
* last February 25, he stole 50.5 pennyweights of raw gold, valued $378,750, from Agar.
