WENDELL Meusa amassed six and a half points from seven games to win the Guyana Chess federation (GCF)-organised Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL)/Topco Juices-sponsored Republic Anniversary one-day Rapid Chess tournament last Saturday at the Kei-shar’s Sports Club. Meusa secured six wins with his lone draw coming in his sixth round matchup against Learie Webster, who finished second overall with 5½, followed by Alexander Duncan, Irshad Mohammed and Dennis Dillon and Rodwell Poole who chalked up 5, 4½ and 4 each respectively.
Glenford Corlette and Steve Leung ended on 3 points in the senior category, while Rashad Hussain continued his excellent form to capture his second tournament of the year when he walked away with the junior category of the tournament.
Hussain finished on five points with Raan Motilall, but with a better tiebreaker average he was able to secure the top position with Raan Motilall taking the second position and Saeed Ali third.
The final points in the junior category are as follows: Rashad Hussain and Raan Motilall 5 each, Saeed Ali 4½, Anthony Drayton, Ron Motilall and Suhai Feng all on 4 points each, Joshua Pedro and Avinash Kishun 3½ and Davion Mars, Vaughn Moses and Winston William on 3 points each.
