ALANA Montooth, who faces a joint drug trafficking charge with her reputed husband, Phillip Bobb, was granted $150,000 bail yesterday, by Acting Chief Justice Ian Chang at New Amsterdam High Court. The woman, who is accused of having 68 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) for the purpose had been previously refused pre-trial freedom in a Magistrate’s Court, where the case was called four times.
However, the judge acted on a petition by Montooth’s mother, Winifred Bobb, presented by attorney-at-law Mr. Charrandas Persaud.
The petitioner said her daughter and Bobb are cash crop farmers in Canje Creek but she was arrested on November 16, 2010, at her Savannah Park Housing Scheme home, in New Amsterdam, after the husband was held.
Montooth went to enquire about the whereabouts of her husband when she was charged and the case is now fixed for hearing on April 4 while Bobb remains on remand.
