PNCR supporters fear rigging at today’s special congress

The various factions supporting PNCR Presidential nominees fear rigging at the special congress today  to elect a presidential candidate for the 2011 National Elections.

Former Finance Minister Carl Greenridge, Former Army Chief of Staff  David Granger,  Former Public Service Minister Faith Harding, and attorneys -at-law Basil Williams and James Bond are in a serious contest for the presidential candidacy.  Leading coordinators for the nominees campaign said, ‘rigging is possible, given that party leader Robert Corbin has  shown favouritism towards a particular candidate’.

The existing rancour among the various factions supporting the nominees could deepen the infighting and disunity in the party.  PNCR executives who support the Basil Williams campaign claim at least two nominees are clearly out of order , disrespectful and off-target with their smear campaign. They say the nominees are in clear breach of the party’s code of conduct in this contest.

At the party’s last congress there were wide spread claims about rigging which caused serious ‘fall-outs”.
The report that one of the nominees is offering ‘bribe’ for a party group to vote for him at today’s special congress is indicative of a serious lack of confidence in the party’s voting machinery.
Also, two party groups have accused  Corbin of accepting inducements to favor a particular candidate who has been operating under his guidance.
The fact that this particular nominee had his book-signing at Congress Place two days before the special congress to vote for a presidential candiate shows clearly where Corbin’s loyalty and support reside and sends a clear message to the other aspirants.
