Fish vendor charged with February 22 murder

EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD fish vendor, Ashton Lambert has been charged with murder.
He appeared at Weldaad Magistrate’s Court, West Coast Berbice, yesterday, accused of unlawfully killing Bharrat Taijpaul on February 22 at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice.

Lambert, of Lot 318 M.C. Ray Street, Rosignol, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Roby Benn and the case was transferred to Blairmont Court, West Bank Berbice, for March 25.
Taijpaul called Sunil, of Lot 192 Shieldstown, another West Bank Berbice village, was fatally stabbed in the back at a bar in the vicinity of Rosignol Stelling and pronounced dead on arrival at Fort Wellington Cottage Hospital, West Coast Berbice.
A post-mortem examination, performed on his body by Dr. Nehaul Singh at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) mortuary, established that death was due to perforation of the lungs and aorta by a stab wound.
