CABINET Secretary and Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon yesterday paid tribute to veteran journalist and former Guyana Chronicle Editor in Chief Sharief Khan, who died after collapsing at his home on Tuesday.
“Let me express, on behalf of the Office of the President and on my own behalf, condolences on the passing of Sharief Khan,” he said, speaking at his post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the President yesterday.
“Sharief’s latest assignment was with the Office of the President, and he has been specifically tasked with mentoring young and budding journalists in the profession…he himself was a well-experienced, long standing media practitioner. His death was sudden and unexpected and for us here it has indeed dealt a blow to our plans working with the state media,” he said.
Khan worked not only with the Office of Climate Change but also with the Press and Publicity Unit at the Office of the President, and would stand in for Kwame McCoy in moderating Dr. Luncheon’s press conferences from time to time.
