MY name is Hubert Hintzen and I am a member of the Guyanese diaspora at present living in the United States of America. I am very interested in your Archives and how far back they go.
The reason is that my mother — Millicent Dorothy Veronica Hintzen (nee Armstrong) died on the 11th day of June 1944, and I am very sure announcements were made in the daily newspapers of the time.
My mom was a Registered Nurse Midwife (worked at the then Public Hospital, G/Town), She was also an accomplished musician (piano and violin) and did recitals at the Gazebos in the Promenade Gardens and the Botanical Gardens. She was also a seamstress that did only bridal parties. She was married to Herbert Eustace Hintzen (a policeman) of the Corentyne Hintzens. At the time of her death my mother was 34 yrs. old. She resided at Lot 25 Princess St. Wortmanville, Georgetown.
There was just one sibling, whose name was Henry Armstrong and at the time he was the Head Groundskeeper for the Bourda Green Cricket Club.
If these Archives do exist, and it is possible to go back that far, I would dearly appreciate a copy of any such announcement. I realize of course that there must be costs involved in such a search, and I am prepared to meet them. Would you be so kind as to check and advise accordingly? At that time I would be happy to send you my mailing address here in the U.S., unless these items could be sent electronically.
In advance, I proffer my sincere thanks for any and all help you can render, with full appreciation of the task I present.
I also understand that Dr. Enid Denbow is alive and well and lives in Georgetown. She is a relative of my mother’s, and I would also appreciate the opportunity to get in touch with her, if that is at all possible. Again, my thanks to you and to your paper for this job, as well as the job you do keeping us (ex-pats) informed as to the daily happenings in Guyana.
Editor’s Note: Chronicle’s Librarian has indicated her willingness to assist with Mr. Hintzen’s request regarding searching for information on his mother, at no cost. Maybe readers who knew/know the parties mentioned will also contact this newspaper.
