Food for the Poor donates to geriatric homes

FOOD for the Poor (FFP) Guyana Inc. donated medical supplies and physical aid equipment to several geriatric homes in the city, at its North Ruimveldt, Georgetown headquarters, on Tuesday. The gesture was in keeping with the donor’s mission to assist the poor and less fortunate and FFP Chairman, Mr. Paul Chan-A- Sue assured the beneficiaries that the benevolence will continue.
“We hope to keep you on the list to receive items as we receive them and to ensure that, in the future, you are not forgotten,” he told the receipients.
Chan-A-Sue said he was impressed by the situation at The Palms, which houses 200 persons, during a recent visit there.
He said FFP recognises the need to give assistance to such institutions, not only in Georgetown but across the country.
Alluding to the scope of the outreach, Chan-a-Sue said:“We have over 18 committees set up to facilitate such activities in several regions of Guyana, except in Regions One (Barima/Waini), Eight (Potaro/Siparuni) and  Nine (Upper Takutu/ Upper Essequibo), in which cases transportation is the hindrance.
Handing over the largesse, he reiterated:“We are here to help you. We hope to continue this process of getting these things to the persons who need them the most.”
Chan-A-Sue also urged the various institutions to stay in touch with FFP, in  order to continue  benefitting from its generosity.
Mr. Wesley Donners, of FFP, said the homes were chosen because of the pressing demands for aid in certain areas.
“They will be uplifting  pampers and other personal care items, bedroom and living quarters sets, wheelchairs, commodes, vitamins, clothing, footwear and other personal items,” he disclosed.
Those who received gifts included St.Thomas Moore Men’s Homestead, Uncle Eddie’s Home, Archer’s and Byer’s Homes, St. Vincent De Paul, The Palms  and Gentlewomen’s Relief Association.
All of their representatives expressed profound gratitude for the timely help and admitted being excited at the announcement that their institutions will remain on the donor’s list.
“I am thankful for the timely donations and I know, for a fact, that the persons at the home will also appreciate the items, as it will make their lives a little better,” said Ms. Olive  Bacchus from  Archer’s and Byer’s Homes.
Director of The Palms, Mr. Govind Singh, also offered thanks and said the gifts will assist in the overall management of the institution.
“This is a timely donation and we are happy to be on the receiving end,” he added.
