THE third annual Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial Under-18 Schools’ football championship for teams in Linden will be launched this afternoon at 14:30 h inside the Linden Enterprise Network’s Boardroom, formerly the Linden Economic Advancement Programme (LEAP) building, on Republic Avenue Mackenzie, Linden.
This tournament is sponsored by the Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Foundation, which is based in the United States, but has its local chapter in Linden which is responsible for the running of the championship. This year’s championship will see the defending champions Wisburg Secondary take on the seven other contesting school teams, namely the inaugural champions Linden Foundation Secondary, Mackenzie High, Harmony Secondary, Wismar Christianburg Secondary ‘Multi’, School of Excellence and Marcia Craig Institute.
At the launching of this tournament which is played in honour of Linden’s first national football player, several trophies, including the Most Valuable Player and Top Goal Scorer awards, and other prizes will be at stake for the successful teams and players.
The various schools involved in this year’s championship are expected to be represented at the launching along with officials from the Region Ten Education Department. (Joe Chapman)
