Marian Academy into United Insurance Schools’ basketball quarter-finals

… Saints outclass Queen’s College
MARIAN Academy easily disposed of Brickdam Secondary 48-18 to ease into the quarterfinals of the United Insurance-sponsored Invitational Schools Basketball when play continued yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
A sudden downpour of mid-afternoon rain forced the organisers to shift play from the Saints court to CASH and in the process one game was affected and has been rescheduled to this afternoon.
The postponed game is set for 16:00 h at the Saints court and will bring together St Rose’s High and School of the Nations.
Marian’s second win from as many games was once again spearheaded by captain and forward Tequain Viera who led all scorers with 18 points with support from Bruce Beresford who netted 15. Brickdam’s best effort was Ian Millington who scored 7.
In the feature game that lacked the traditional intensity, Queen’s’ College were no match for the hosts and were comprehensively brushed aside 39-18. Saints exploded in the second period, outscoring Queen’s 29-14 to begin their championship challenge on a high.
Darroll Williams 11 and Kwesi Thompson 8 were the principal scorers for the winners, while Joel Trotman with 6 was the best for the losers. (Ras Abdalla)
