CARIFTA officials satisfied with Catherine Hall Stadium

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica (CMC) – Regional technical delegates visited the Catherine Hall Stadium on Saturday to inspect the facility that will host the CARIFTA Games later this year. Teddy McCook, president of the North America, Central America & Caribbean track & field association, visited the facility along with  Esther Maynard, president of the Barbados Amateur Athletic Association, and Alain Jean Pierre of Haiti for the Western Relays, which were staged at the stadium over the weekend.
“We were satisfied with what we saw,” said McCook. “There appears to be a lot of space and we are quite impressed with the facilities.”
The complex, which will also stage football matches in the CONCACAF Under-17 Boys Championship over the next two weeks, was appointed to host the Games, after a late decision from track & field authorities in the island to save the event.
The Games looked in danger of being cancelled for the first time since its inception 40 years ago, when St Kitts withdrew from its commitment to stage the event.
Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, and Turks & Caicos, as well as the French islands Guadeloupe and Martinique were identified as possible hosts, but all turned down the opportunity.
