Region Three to host first Culture Fest

The first Culture Fest for 2011 will be held at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground in Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) on Sunday April 3,commencing at 13:00 hrs. This was decided upon following a meeting yesterday in the regional boardroom, Vreed-en- Hoop, West Coast Demerara.
Among those at the meeting were Chairman of the Ethnic Relations Commission, Bishop Juan Edghill; Regional Chairman, Julius Faerber; Regional Executive Officer ag, Paul Ramrattan; District Education Officer, Allan Bhajan; Regional Information Officer, Jaidev Dudhnath; and representatives of a number of religious and cultural groups/organizations.
According to Bishop Edghill, the first ever Culture Fest was held in Georgetown during the run-up to the 2006 regional and general elections. He noted that the activity was a huge success and stated that the commission felt that there was need to extend the activity to other parts of Guyana.
Bishop Edghill disclosed that Culture Fest would be held this year in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10, primarily because of the multi-culture background and the dynamics of these regions.
He emphasised that Culture Fest is designed to celebrate with respect the cultural diversity of all Guyanese, and noted that everybody would be able to showcase their culture of religion and beliefs on a single platform in a truly Guyanese environment.
Culture Fest in Region Three will see religious groups/organizations taking part in exhibitions, impromptu speeches, sports and a cultural show.
