I REFER to Mr. Mark Conway’s letter which appeared in Kaieteur News of February 8, 2011, in which he endorses the popular choice for PPP’s General-Secretary, Mr. Donald Ramotar, to be the Presidential Candidate for the 2011 general elections. I hasten to append my name to the growing list of supporters for Donald’s candidacy. Mr. Conway adeptly highlighted some cogent points of merit to validate his justification for the choice but the brevity of his evaluation left many facets of Donald’s eligibility untouched. Hence this elaboration.
Throughout his political career, Mr. Ramotar has earned the noble reputation of openness and making himself easily available to those who need his services.
Unlike many contemporary politicians, who smugly ensconce themselves in the safety and comfort of their offices, Donald’s door is never closed to the public, regardless of the status of the person who seeks dialogue with him.
He recognises the importance of public participation and engagement. His ears are trained to be sensitive to the voices of his people.
It does not necessitate a psycho-analytical report of Donald’s character, personality and temperament to discern a total absence of vindictiveness, malice and malignancy in this man towards those who oppose him.
Indeed, he readily forgives and forgets transgressions committed against him and embraces his opponents which equal passion as those who support him. The eternal smile in his visage is testament to the peace, calm and benevolence that pervade his thinking. Guyana does not need an arrogant and callous leader to preside over its multi ethnic and multi cultural population. Guyana clamours for Donald.
Mr. Ramotar possesses a remarkable propensity for professional conduct. It would be a cardinal sin to associate him with the abominations that have characterised the tenure of many world leaders who egregious tendencies include derogatory name calling, slanderous allegations, personal vilification, tantrums against critics, punitive reprisals, and other detestable and puerile actions. Among these perversities, Donald rises like an impeccable white lily. In his office, Donald maintains a gentleman’s approach to conflict resolution. Discussions and deliberations are allowed the widest latitude to achieve a favourable outcome. He never goes public with problems and conflicts which are sometimes inevitable in any human environment. In Guyanese parlance, he does not hang his dirty linen for all to see. He conducts his affairs with finesse.
As an anointed protégé of Dr Jagan, Donald meticulously set the highest standard for ethical practices. While many leaders unabashedly recruit themselves into corruption, this man has distinguished himself as the epitome of honesty, emulating a kind of Gandhiesque simplicity, probity, modesty and selflessness. After years in office, Donald remains immaculately clean and any attempt to besmirch his character with venality would clearly lack credibility. Guyana needs at the helm an administrator who can lead the by example and Donald exemplifies all the virtues of a superb leader.
Let’s make Guyana proud! Put Donald where he belongs! In the Office of the President! The future depends on Donald.
