AS a successful young businessman, I would like to share my views on the heavy rainfall that poured along the coastland recently which has certainly tested the improvement in the drainage system following significant works undertaken by the government through the Ministry of Agriculture and its community drainage workers. Despite the heavy downpour accumulated water in canals and low lying areas drained into the Atlantic speedily due to significant improvement made to Guyana’s drainage infrastructure in an effort to adapt to the effects of climate change.
The government’s investment to improve drainage and other associated infrastructure has certainly proven its worth as much more is being done to mitigate the ever present and changing threats of climate change to Guyana.  The numerous initiatives being rolled out are most welcomed by the private sector. As such, to reduce our vulnerability, especially along the East Coast, I amongst numerous other entrepreneurs and residents along the East Coast are calling on the government to expedite the construction of the Hope Canal Project, despite comments by those who oppose the progress and development of our country.
The great vision of the present government is undeniable and all civil minded Guyanese must recognize this fact as expansive infrastructure development is taking place to complement all investment and economic activities.
We have come a long way as a country and more needs to be done and the doomsayers should accept defeat rather than make cheap attempts at thwarting progress and development for all the people of Guyana.
