GUYANESE Walter Moore saw his football career has moved to another level when he landed in the nest of the Charlotte Eagles, a United Soccer League (USL) Pro League Club, following a successful try out in the USA. According to a release, the 26-year-old Moore, who plays his football in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) with Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA, will join the Eagles on a loan from March 3 for their 19th season in the league.
The release explained that Moore’s try-out was arranged by his fiancée and Trinidad’s star female player Ahkeela Mollon and it stated that he (Moore) was very impressive in his showing to the coaching staff and was made an offer to join the club after a few days but details of his loan were not disclosed.
Since 2004, Moore has emerged as one of Guyana’s brightest prospect based on his skills to defend well, and at the same time be an offensive threat.
He represented this country at almost every level and was given a chance to turn the sport he loves into a profession when he joined the T&T Pro-League Club North East Stars, where he spent two years.
In 2006, Moore formed alliance with former Technical Director of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Jamaal Shabazz at a club popularly known as ‘Cali’ where he has cemented himself as one of their premier players, gaining many accolades including a ‘First Citizen Cup’ Most Goalscorer award along with a 2009 T&T Pro-League Most Valuable Player (MVP) nomination.
In 2009 he was almost signed to the USL Pro League club Rochester Rhinos, based in Rochester New York, but due to financial difficulties then, the negotiations fell short.
Commenting on his move to the USA, Moore said, ‘ I am looking forward to show my football skills to the state of North Carolina and all of the USA”.
The Charlotte Eagles are owned and operated by Missionary Athletes International and is a member of the USL Hall of Fame for their history of success on and off the field, and dedication to their community.
They have made the playoffs 15 of the last 17 seasons, making seven appearances at the National Championship and winning two USL-2 National Championships in 2000 and 2005.
The team has also featured two MVPs over the years in Jacob Coggins (2004 – 2005) and Dustin Swinehart (2008).
Moore is expected to don the colours of his new club on April 9 when they play their first match in the USL Pro League season against the Charleston Battery Club which once featured another Guyanese in Nigel ‘Powers’ Codrington.
