GUYANA’S Dion Ferrier, Travis Blyden and Kellon Carmichael turned in creditable performances over the past weekend, to steer their adopted clubs in Trinidad and Tobago to victory in the T&T National 40 overs championship league. The 21-year-old Blyden, who was named skipper of his team Rousillac United (RU) this season, struck 10 fours in his 88 that took his team to 277-7 at the end of their 40 overs in their matchup against Evergreen Sports Club (ESC), receiving support from Keon Telluck who made 69.
When ESC batted, they were bowled out for 87 from 22 overs, as Sass Singh took 3-27 and Sunil Persaud 2-6, handing RU a comfortable 190-run victory which pushed them to second in the points table.
Defending champions Aranguez Cricket Club (ACC) for whom Ferrier and Carmichael ply their trade, got off to a good start winning their first two games while rain prevented any play in the other two in the T&T Championship League.
They took on Cavaliers of Tobago in their first match which was also affected by rain and was reduced to a Twenty20 affair, wherein ACC who won the toss and opted to bat first, scored 139-7 from their 20 overs.
Safraz Laloo top-scored with 56, while Ferrier and Carmichael chipped in with 18 and 16 respectively, with Carmichael accumulating his runs off four deliveries, to which Cavaliers reached 109-8 from their 20 overs, with Ferrier taking 2-16 and Carmichael 1-14.
In their other matches against University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), ACC asked their opponents to take first strike and restricted them to 165-8 from their 38 overs, with Ferrier and Carmichael picking up two wickets each for 16 and 35 runs respectively.
In reply, ACC reached 169-8 from 36 overs, thanks to Faaik Mohammed’s 40, while Carmichael and Ferrier continued their impressive start with the bat with Carmichael being unbeaten on 35 when victory was achieved while Ferrier made 20.
ACC will play their last preliminary game this Saturday against Explorers before playing the quarterfinals the following day against an opponent to be named.
