Deportation also ordered for fined French alien

JOHN Christian, a 29-year-old national of French Guiana pleaded guilty to illegally entering Guyana and was fined $30,000 with the alternative of three months imprisonment. Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, before whom he pleaded guilty, was told Christian entered this country on Tuesday, February 1, at Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice, by sea and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.
According to attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson, who appeared for him, Christian travelled to Georgetown because his Guyanese wife is pregnant with their unborn child but he does not understand English.
Christian was also ordered to remain in custody pending deportation.
