At Demerara Assizes…
THE accused in the Leopold Street murder case, Tarrel Edwards called ‘Troy Forde’, told police that the unlawful killing of Terrence Moffat was the result of a drug trade dispute between them. That was stated in a confession tendered in evidence at the trial before Justice Dawn Gregory.
The attestation said Moffat had owed Edwards some money in relation to drugs and, when the latter refused to pay him, a fight ensued and the victim was shot.
The prisoner had given sworn testimony from the witness box after which the adjournment was taken to Monday next when he is expected to call witnesses.
Edwards is being represented by Mr. Peter Hugh, on the indictment which said Moffat was killed in Leopold Street, Georgetown, on April 2, 2006.
The case for the Prosecution, being presented by State Counsel Rhondel Weaver and Teshana James, is that the shooting, by the 19-year-old Edwards, was not done in self-defence nor was it an accident or after provocation.
