TWO gunmen escaped with $700,000 after a robbery at Popeye’s Fast Food Outlet on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, on Wednesday night.
Police were still investigating the crime yesterday but have not yet made any arrest. The crime was committed about 20:50 hrs when the two robbers entered the eatery and brandished guns. One was wearing a stocking over his face but the other made no attempt to conceal his identity.
The bandits held an employee at gunpoint but, after being asked for the supervisor, she was pushed aside and the place robbed.
Customers inside were also relieved of valuables before Police responded to the alarm.
An employee yesterday told the Guyana Chronicle all the employees, who were on duty when the robbery occurred, are accounted for and that the one who was reported missing had run away because of fright.
All of them were traumatised but some reported for work yesterday. (Michel Outridge)
