One gun robbery defendant granted bail, other refused

COLLIS Collison, 24, of Lot 142 South Ruimveldt, Georgetown and 42-year-old Mark Vaughn (no address given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on separate charges of robbery under arms and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. They both pleaded not guilty to having, on January 21, being armed with a gun, robbed Irene Arjune of a handbag containing two travel tickets and $515,000, making a total of $693,000.
Collison also denied that, the same day, he had six rounds of .32 ammunition and a .32 Taurus pistol, without licences for them.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said it was around 11:20 hrs that the virtual complainant was on Robb Street and about to enter her car when the two defendants approached her, Collison pointing a gun at her and, in fear, she  handed over the bag.
The Prosecutor said the men were, subsequently, confronted by police who were in the area and the bag was recovered from them.
Telford objected to bail for Vaughn, stating that he has another, similar case pending.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson, for Vaughn, said the case to which Telford referred has been dismissed.
The lawyer maintained that Vaughn was nowhere around when the alleged robbery took place. The latter was ordered to post $50,000 surety while Collison was refused pre-trial freedom.
The cases will be called, again, on February 7.
