Confessed drug trafficker remanded on armed robbery charge

EON Archibald, of Lot 155 Campbellville Housing Scheme, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday, by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, on a robbery under arms charge, He pleaded not guilty to having, on January 21, being armed with a knife, robbed Adrina Silva of a gold chain valued $170,000.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was in Camp Street, also in the city, when the defendant brandished a knife and demanded the jewel.
The Prosecutor said the victim, being fearful, complied with the demand and the defendant was arrested after a raised alarm.
Archibald confessed that he trafficks narcotics but alleged that the Police are framing him with the robbery charge.
Asked by the magistrate, whether he is aware that having drugs in his possession is an offence, he replied in the positive but said he only wanted to speak the truth.
He maintained he knows nothing about the allegation and said he would complain to the Minister of Home Affairs.
The prosecutor informed the Court that Archibald is presently on bail, awaiting trial on a similar matter and if granted pre-trial freedom may commit other offences.
The case was put off to February 1.
