RESIDENTS of Mc Nabb, on the Essequibo Coast, are relieved after a fearsome jaguar, that roamed the bushes in the village over the past weeks, was shot by a hunter at around 22:00 hrs Monday night. The villagers, living 10 miles aback of Better Success in the North of the Coast, said they have lost several dogs, poultry and livestock and suspected they were killed by the
rampaging animal.
One of them, Henry Mangroo, an elder of the Mc Nabb Voice of Faith Miracle Ministries Church, told the Guyana Chronicle that a woman saw the feline venture into her poultry pen one night and grab a duck, with which it escaped.
Others got a glimpse of it by using torchlights at night time after most of the dogs in the community had been devoured.
Mangroo said the jaguar even climbed his stairs and sat on his verandah one night, before some hunters got together and set a trap for it.
He said a dog was tied to a tree stump in a dark yard and, when the jaguar approached its intended prey, it was killed with gunshots.
The seven-foot long jaguar, weighing 120 pounds, was put on display after its death and one of the shooters took off its skin to keep as a souvenir.
Mc Nabb was carved out of a jungle and is sparsely populated.
