AS I put together these few words I am still in a state of bewilderment at the decision by the PNCR to appoint Ms. Baveghems as a Member of Parliament in the highest decision making body in our nation.
This woman as far as I can remember was employed by current PNCR Presidential hopeful Mr. Basil Williams as his office cleaner.
While I will not focus on her educational background or lack thereof and hold that against her elevation to such a position, the PNCR needs to state why it did not select a more suitable candidate to represent its interests in the National Assembly. Or is it the party does not have any competent grassroots figure to represent it? Why not return Mr. Hamilton Green to the National Assembly? I am sure he would have made up for the void in eloquent debaters on the opposition benches following the death of Mr. Winston Murray.
The reason for my concern or rather disgust is that indeed Ms. Baveghems is quite familiar to the entire public and not only to PNC/R grassroots supporters but for all the wrong reasons.
I encourage media houses to dig up file footage they would have aired a few years ago with the madam and some of her colleagues uttering the most puerile, foul and sometimes racist remarks while on her usual protests.
I recall seeing footage of her on numerous occasions crassly berating certain media operatives she thought were accurately highlighting the chaos which erupted during the PNC/R protests in the city and its ensuing violence.
Whether it was pulling down police barricades around the high court or using the vilest language in tormenting and verbally abusing law enforcement ranks, it is rather ironic that this woman has been selected to the assembly which is entrusted in making the laws of our nation.
I wonder if the footage still exists where she is seen bending over and lifting up her garments to show among other unsightly gestures her disdain to police ranks in front of the high courts. Is this how the PNCR plans to engage in activism in the National Assembly for the election year?
One final note, in its disclosure of the reshuffling of its shadow ministers it apparently failed to indicate which Ministry, Ms. Baveghems will take up the position of shadow minister.
