…as police investigate larceny report
Ramkissoon Sukra alias ‘Bodo’ , of Portuguese Quarters, Port Mourant allegedly escaped from police custody as the cop left to investigate a report in Rose Hall Town, Corentyne. The defendant was denied bail by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo in the New Amsterdam Court on Tuesday.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, said that on January 4, Sukra, aged 37, was a prisoner at the Rose Hall Police Outpost , on a summary charge of assault when, being in the custody of a Police Officer Constable Griffith, escaped.
He was subsequently found at a house in the Corentyne township.
According to reports, Griffith was at the station when he received a report of simple larceny. He allegedly secured the lockups before leaving. However, on his return to the station, the detainee was missing.
The matter is fixed for hearing at Albion Court tomorrow . (Jeune Bailey Vankeric)
