– Palms and Dharm Shala residents cheered
Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds, on Christmas Day, spread the joy of the season interspersed with words of wisdom to residents of the Dharm Shala when he visited the Home of Benevolence for all races in Albouystown, Georgetown. In imparting Government’s wishes for the Christmas holidays to the gathered senior citizens, Mr. Hinds also expressed his congratulations to Pandit Ramsaroop and his daughters for hosting the luncheon every year for those that are less fortunate in society.
“Christmas time and the New Year is inevitably a time of marking the passing of the year, it’s a time for recalling,” he said.
He advised them , “It is for us to work individually and to work altogether to make 2011 a better year.”
Other members of Parliament and the private sector were also present to meet and greet the people and express their wishes for the holidays.
Meanwhile, over at the Palms on Brickdam, Minister of Labour, Manzoor Nadir, spread a different form of cheer to the residents and staff of the Home, that of laughter. The Minister took time out from his family on this festive season to visit the residents of the Home so that they would not feel forgotten. He enquired about the welfare of each person and shared a funny anecdote with a few.
Mr. Nadir also ensured that the people were fed, as he personally handed out plates of food prepared by the staff of the Palms.
He was also warmly received by the staff of the institution.
“It’s been a really uplifting experience to speak with some of the residents here, they still have their sense of humour, they still have their faculties with them; but because of conditions, they are where they are today,” Minister Nadir told GINA.
He added that it is a good lesson at this Christmas time to reflect on those who need our help and those who need our compassion.
“I want to especially say to the staff of the Palms a Merry Christmas and commend them for the great work they are doing, caring for these folks,” the Minister said. (GINA)
