PLEASE allow me space in your esteemed newspaper to make a public appeal to His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo to meet with a delegation of men and women who worked with Guyana Telecommunication Company (GTC), the predecessor of the GT&T, to discuss matters relating to a long standing issue over pensions.
We make this appeal in light of the fact that the president recently saw it fit to meet with and impressively settle concerns related to workers at Barama when the Company sent them home after a mishap at its East Bank plant. We ask for no less as this issue can be settled in less than half an hour.
This problem has been a sore point among GTC-GT&T workers for six and a half years and letters to the Head of State, Secretary of Cabinet Roger Luncheon and Head of the Privatization Unit Mr. Winston Brassington have all gone to naught.
Some of the intended beneficiaries of these emoluments have died, others are destitute and others are in need of it to supplement meagre pensions since retiring.
It is our sincere hope that the president can set aside a few minutes to deal with this matter once and for all as workers and former employees are very aggrieved by the state of play with their pensions.
