THE Christmas holidays are here and there will be the hustle and bustle as citizens go about their usual shopping for this festive occasion. While this period should be one of joy and gladness it is also a fact that criminal elements are already on the prowl waiting to cash in on some hapless soul in their pursuit of happiness. Therefore, I have decided to put forward a few crime tips to assist my fellow citizens so that we can be better able to protect ourselves. Firstly, one should be aware of his/her surroundings and call the police at the sight of strange or shady characters in your community. Be on the look out for groups of men in vehicles be it private or hire and do the right thing let the police be informed of the actions of these individuals; you would have thwarted another armed robbery as well as saved a life. Fellow citizens do not open your doors to strange men who come under the pretext that they’ve lost their way and need some assistance to get to that person in the community or servicemen out to fix some malfunction at your home.
Please get into the habit of memorising vehicle numbers; it is a very good way in nabbing would-be thieves. The most frequently used method for armed robbery these days are motor vehicles; so taking down the numbers of these vehicles would help the lawmen in tracking down the criminal.
Lastly, be your brother’s keeper. If you see your neighbour being attacked by bandits use your phone to call the police because that individual’s phone might have been disconnected by the bandits. These little crime tips will go a far way in making our communities and our country a safer place.
