Championships start today
THE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) in conjunction with the National Sports Commission (NSC) sponsored Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) organized National Schools’ Chess Championship gets underway from 1000h at the Carifesta Sports Complex. Schools from Georgetown including defending champion Saint Stanislaus College, East and West Bank Demerara, Berbice and Linden are set to compete in this elite tournament which culminates tomorrow at the same venue.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dr. Frank Anthony, who challenged the GCF to attract over 100 schools for next year’s tournament, at the presentation of prizes won at the national championship, is expected to declare the School’s Championship open as well as make the first move.
The presentation of prizes will be done tomorrow.
