Larceny defendant committed new offence while on bail

– Prosecutor
WENDEL Frisco (no address given) was, yesterday, refused bail on a simple larceny charge.
He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, last December 13, he stole one piece of tarpaulin, valued $65,000, property of Baburam Doodnauth.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, was successful in his objection to pre-trial freedom for the defendant, on the ground that he recently faced a similar charge in the same Court and was allowed liberty with surety.
The Prosecutor said the virtual complainant saw Frisco removing the covering material and raised an alarm.
But the defendant claimed the booty belonged to him and said Doodnauth owes him money and made the allegation because he went to collect it.
The case has been postponed to January 11.
