Guyanese heads CARICOM electoral observer mission for St. Vincent elections

CHIEF Elections Officer of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Mr. Gocool Boodhoo, is currently in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as the leader of the CARICOM electoral observer mission for the elections there on December 13, 2010. Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon said that Boodhoo leads a 12-man team drawn from seven Caribbean states, including St. Lucia, whose representative Mr. Carson Raggie will serve as Deputy Chief of Mission.
According to the Caricom Secretariat, a core group comprising the Chief and Deputy Chief of Mission and a Caricom Secretariat Staff member arrived in St. Vincent on December 6, and the remaining observers will arrive there on December 9. The entire team will depart the island on December 15, 2010, the Secretariat added.
Meanwhile, on the question of the preparations for the fallout of Local Government elections here, especially with reference to the City administration, Dr. Luncheon believes that the citizens of Georgetown will have to play a greater role in the demand for better city governance.
The Cabinet Secretary assured that whilst the citizenry can continue to rely on Government, given its track record of support and intervention in the city, over the years the desires of the citizens of Georgetown have been echoed in the calls by the administration and supported both “politically and financially”.
