– as Conscious Minds Promotions prepare for mega show
President Bharrat Jagdeo has endorsed the tax exemption request by Conscious Minds Promotions as it prepares to stage what it considers one of the biggest entertainment shows for the holiday season.
The show, “Soca Queen, Meets Dancehall King,” is set for December 18 at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, featuring Jamaican reggae stars Beenie Man, and Future Fambo and Soca queen from Trinidad and Tobago Destra and, Richie Loops.
Also on the roster is an interesting lineup of popular local artistes.
Chief Executive Officer, Lennox Willis, and Public Relations Officer, Mondale Smith, left the Office of the President satisfied after meeting the Head of State yesterday and having their request granted.
Smith described the promotion as the best Christmas gift for 2010, as patrons are required to pay an entrance fee of a mere $1000. He noted that it also has an added value of complementing the drive to provide a range of entertainment options to the many tourists expected during the holiday season.
Already the promotion has attracted corporate sponsorship from Banks DIH and Digicel.
The organisers, as part of their plans, intend to give a minimum of 10 percent of the proceeds from the event to the Joshua House Children’s Home.
President Jagdeo is the brainchild behind the concept of heightening entertainment activities during specific periods of the year to capitalise on the number of tourists who usually visit Guyana.
In April last year, the Head of State met with several stakeholders in the entertainment industry at the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC) and proposed innovative ideas for local entertainment to keep visitors occupied, at the same time creating endless opportunities for entertainers and the tourism industry.
During the dialogue with the stakeholders, President Jagdeo said that entertainment in Guyana can be successfully planned and staged if organised through collaborative effort of promoters, fashion designers, tourism stakeholders, airline agencies and other stakeholders.
