LIEUTENANT Colonel Lawrence Fraser has formally taken command of the 4 Engineers Battalion (4Engr BN) of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
Former Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Gary Beaton, now Commands the Coast Guard. The change of command was formalized on November 29, 2010, in the presence of several officers and other ranks, at a simple yet significant, Change of Command Parade at Base Camp Stephenson, Timehri.
Following the review of the parade, Lt Col Gary Beaton handed over the Unit’s Colours to its new Commander.
In farewell remarks, Lt Col Beaton thanked the officers and ranks whom he previously commanded for their commitment.
Noting that the continued preparation of military engineers is captured in the Force’s development plan, he urged that progress during these changing times would have to be achieved through diligence and the commitment to pursuing education.
Welcoming Lt Col Fraser to the Unit’s Command, he pledged his support and wished the new Commander and the Battalion much success in the future.
Accepting command of 4Engr BN, Commanding Officer, Lt Col Fraser congratulated his predecessor for the fine work done with respect to “..Re-building 4 Engr Bn, in terms of both personnel and infrastructure.”
Lt Col Fraser said that training, construction of the Military School of Engineering, and the re-implementation of project incentives will be his immediate focus.
Acknowledging that there are many challenges to be addressed, he remained confident that, with hard work and teamwork, the Unit will be able to achieve its objectives.
