THE Triple ‘R’ Rodeo Ground, at Lethem, in Region Nine (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo), will be the venue, today and tomorrow, for the ninth Annual Trade Exposition
being hosted by Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI). The staging of the cultural and sporting activities should have taken place last weekend but was postponed to facilitate the attendance of RCCI members at the fourth
regular Summit of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).
RCCI President, Mr. Alfred Ramsarran, who offered the explanation, said yesterday that the exposition will be bigger than any previous one, even if only due to the
fact that there has been a huge increase in trade since the 2009 opening of the Takutu Bridge linking Guyana and Brazil.
About anticipated participation, he said: “Our producers and craft people in Region Nine are our core exhibitors. Additionally, we will have the usual ones who have
been with us over the years.
“Then we will have others who have set up businesses in our new commercial zone and we will also accommodate a new set of manufacturers and distributors who want to
seize opportunities arising from the opening of the Takutu Bridge.”
Ramsarran said RCCI has invited members of the Boa Vista Chamber of Commerce and SEBRAE, a Brazilian private sector organisation to participate along with Guyanese
manufacturers and sister chambers.
There was a pre-Expo lime last night and viewing of the booths will commence at 14:00h today, before the formal opening at 16:00h, which will include addresses by
Ramsarran and Region Nine Chairman, Mr. Clarindo Lucas.
That will be followed by an action packed day of sports tomorrow, comprising horse racing, a 10 kilometres athletic race, volleyball and football competitions.
Postponed Rupununi Chamber trade exposition begins today
