KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC) – Odean Brown gave a glimpse of his all-round ability to fortify West Indies-A’s grip on the second and final, four-day ‘Test’ against Pakistan-A yesterday.
Brown struck 66 to anchor the bottom half of the Windies-A’s batting, as the home team were dismissed for 357, replying to Pakistan-A’s first innings total of 261, in the match at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.
The leg-spinner then collected three wickets for 41 runs from 15 overs, as Pakistan-A reached 122 for three in their second innings at the close of the penultimate day.
But Brown and the rest of the Windies-A bowlers received some punishment from Khurram Manzoor before the close. The Pakistan-A opener struck 11 fours in an unbeaten 66 from 161 balls in three hours of batting.
After Brown removed Umair Khan, Shan Masood, and Umar Amin to leave the visitors 52 for three, Pakistan-A captain Faisal Iqbal came to the crease and stroked 33 not out, and added 70 – unbroken – for the fourth wicket with Manzoor before stumps were drawn.
Brown trapped Khan lbw for 12, then had Masood caught close to the wicket for two, and also had Amin lbw for four.
Earlier, Brown struck four fours and two sixes from 113 balls in close to two hours, as West Indies-A were dismissed about half-hour before tea.
The home team ran into early trouble, after they resumed from their overnight total of 245 for four.
Denesh Ramdin fell to Yasir Shah, when he was bowled for 25, and left-hander Jonathan Carter was caught off Shah for 48 to leave Windies-A 258 for six.
Brown then took control, with some lofty strokes to dominate a seventh-wicket stand of 44 with compatriot and A-Team captain Dave Bernard Jr, and a ninth-wicket stand of 41 with Shannon Gabriel.
The Windies-A lost their last four wickets for a valuable 99 to substantially beef-up their total.
Shah was the most successful Pakistan–A bowler with five wickets for 143 runs from 46 overs.
Zulfiqar Babar took three for 111 from 39 overs, and Junaid Khan two for 40 from 15.4 overs.
The two-match ‘Test’ series is level at nil–all, after the first Test ended in a draw last Sunday at the same venue.
