North West District youths at Day of Sports

GENERAL-Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Mr. Donald Ramotar, has challenged young people at Moruca, in the North West District, to be the future leaders.
Addressing a gathering of them at a Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport ‘Day of Sports and Interaction’, he called on the youths to get involved in clubs and other meaningful activities.
Ramotar noted that sports help the fight against anti-social attitudes in communities and, at the same time, make youths healthier.

He said the Government will ensure that youths are provided with all the facilities needed for their upliftment.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, in his address on the occasion, said Government has invested millions of dollars for the improvement of sports across the country and urged those gathered to make maximum use of all the opportunities available to excel.
He said his ministry had organised the programme at Kumaka Community Centre Ground so that young people from the various communities can come together and build new friendships through sports.
Chairman of Region One (Barima/Waini), Mr. Fermin Singh, said it is a very historic day for the people of the North West District to be involved in the sports and interaction.
Youths from different villages in the savannahs said they were happy to participate and undertook to make next year’s activity bigger and brighter.
Some of the games played were cricket, football, table tennis, volleyball and circle tennis, for which prizes and trophies were awarded at the end of the day.
Chairman of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Alli Baksh and Director of Sports, Mr. Neil Kumar were also in attendance.
